So what have I been up to? Lots of little things, but no really big news.

1) Saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith with K a couple of weeks ago. It's an action-adventure romantic comedy in the same vein as True Lies. We enjoyed it a lot. No matter what your preference, there's eye candy for you in this movie. I especially liked how it looked at marriage in a positive light.

2) Weight Watchers continues to be a god send. I currently weight 246.6 lb. This means I'm down 28.0 lb., which is ten percent of my total mass. I'm not half the man I used to be, but I am nine-tenths the man I was! This is having numerous positive effects: My self-esteem is skyrocketing, Running is way easier, and I'm getting faster! It has a lot of other physiological/psychological benefits that I'm not going to go into because it's just TMI.

3) I'm arranging a trip to Vancouver with K in the first week of August. Things are falling into place nicely. K has been looking for a job, and while I hope she finds one, I also hope it doesn't clobber my plans. For you Vancouverites reading this, we're going to see the fireworks and you're all invited to hang out with us.

4) SCA stuff is settling down to an easy routine of occasional updates to The Baronial website.

5) Speaking of web pages, I'm taking a course in Web Page Design and Management from SAIT. It's every Tuesday for seven weeks. Thank god it isn't longer because I'm definitely thinking taking the course is a mistake. There is a syllabus for the course and from what it says, I'm not going to learn anything I don't already know until week five. The instructor is annoying for several reasons. First, he's pedantic. Second, he's one of those guys who asks lots of questions in class and won't move on until somebody makes an attempt at an answer. Normally, this doesn't bother me - I've had instructors like this in the past and I'm willing to ask the questions if it means the class doesn't bog down into "Bueller... Beuller...". Problem is, he's one of those guys who will always take your answers in such a way as to make them wrong (so that he can give the right answer). For example, when he asks a question that could be taken in a beginner-ish, general sort of way or a precise, technical way, if I give the precise, technically correct answer, he responds with "well that's a bit much for this level of class I meant general, beginner-ish". Later, when I gave the general, beginner-ish answer I got "No I meant this precise, technical thing". Fuck.

Third, he's half-deaf and fourth, he mumbles. I was also going to add that he teaches to the lowest common denominator of the class. That's not really his fault though - some of the class doesn't know how to use notepad, so he doesn't have a lot of choice in that regard.

Finally, it's a SAIT class so attendance is compulsory. Ugh.

6) Saw Sin City. I liked all the Marv story-line best. The rest of it was so-so. I do disagree with Robert Rodriguez's assertion that Frank Miller was his co-director. That Rodriguez choose not to change any of Miller's story (almost all of the shots are frame-for-frame identical to the original books) is not the same as him having no choice. Basically, Rodriguez's lack of discretion does not equate to Frank Miller being a director. Let Miller, you know, direct something. Then we'll talk about giving him a credit.

7) Shot a 76 at archery last Friday - another personal best! Next stop - master.

8) Saw Batman Begins. Not only is this movie better than the Schumacher Batman movies - it's better than all of the Batman movies (including the Tim Burton ones). What did it have that the other ones lacked? Plot, characterization, Decent acting. I hope they continue this way, ignoring everything that came before in favour of the new set of movies. This would be a very comic-book thing to do as the books themselves tend to reset every eight years or so (the better to attract an audience unencumbered by many years of back-plot - the curse of serial fiction).

9) I bought a pair of season tickets to Theatre Calgary. The season is excellent, and I'm already in line to get extra tickets to the two best shows of the season. Namely, Wingfield's Inferno and Guys & Dolls.

9) It's barbeque season! Had a good one at [livejournal.com profile] wackynephews and [livejournal.com profile] wendy_licious' place last week and another good one this week at [livejournal.com profile] catalytic's. I may have to have one myself one of these days.

So that about covers it. More crunchy toast news later when I have some.
