It's been awhile since I wrote anything of import. That trend continues with this entry which is a long, rambling, I-had-toast-it-was-crunchy post.
First on the block is my new position as the webmaster for the Barony of Montengarde. I've discovered that web mastering takes more than just knowledge of how to use a web editor - I also need to know shit about hosting sites, registering domain names, etc. Thanks to
evilscientist and Brain for their help in explaining this stuff to me.
I took the site over from Li Xia, who has been taking a lot of heat for the site recently. She's had quite a bit on her plate recently (and suffered through a major computer meltdown) so I am stepping up to take over this one small aspect of her SCA activities.
So the site had a lot of broken links and not much content (yet), but after an initial burst of work to shape it up, I don't plan on spending more than 1 hour/week on it. Mostly I plan on editing content that other people give me. I've begun this by taking assorted post about the upcoming Beltane event and formatting them into one entry that is currently the front page of the site.
I'll be going to Beltane. While there I plan on competing in the archery tournament.
garething is no longer in the intermediate category, so I stand a chance of winning. This will also likely be
evilscientist's first SCA competition. He shot his first royal round last week (he wasn't able to do this earlier because he had a compound bow, which are prohibited. Now he has a recurve) and he shot a 64. I am both proud for my friend and pissed because I shot a 61, which is my highest score to date.
On the other hand, I did shoot a 61. While that is not a spectacular score, it's not shabby either. When I do it two more times I get to call myself "bowman".
For the event, Wendylicous donated a huge whack of garb to me (which I will be sharing with Brain and
spookymonkey, who plan on attending). The garb's previous owner was St. Pat, which is unfortunate because Brain, SpookyMonkey, St. Pat and I each have different body types. Hopefully it's all nice and loose.
In return,
wendylicous got a new(ish) computer that I cobbled together. It's only a P3/650, but it's still better than what she was using. Hopefully they got it up and running (I wasn't able to do it myself due to time constraints). This exchange took place at the BBQ that she and
wackynephews put on over the weekend. I didn't get to it until late, and I didn't stick around too long (that, more than anything else, is making me consider buying a car - hmm, maybe an iBug).
I (along with some friends) have joined Weight Watchers. I was going to keep this secret on account of another friend of mine hates hates hates WW. However, I'm going to settle for not talking about it around them - if they read about it here, it's not my problem.
So far I've lost 4 pounds in 3 weeks. Only 46 more to go.
I think it can actually work. In the past, when I've tried dieting, I've never really kept track of what I was eating. This made it impossible to stick to a diet. WW forces me to keep track of what I'm eating. By keeping track of what you're eating, it also forces you to pay attention to what you're eating, and to plan accordingly.
My biggest risk is my own mental problems. I start thinking things like "If I succeed it means that I could have done this at any time in the last twenty years, therefore the last twenty years are a waste. But if I fail then it must have been an impossible task". This is what they call setting yourself up for failure.
The truth of the matter is that I couldn't have done this at any earlier point in my life - I was too fucked up. Two years of therapy have gotten me to the point where I can start making positive changes to my life without being doomed to failure. That is the real accomplishment.
It's not all sweetness and light though - while cycling to work today I threw my back out. Craptacular. I also did my taxes this weekend. I owe the government $4500! Why do I owe such a blood-curdling amount? Because I cashed in a shitload of investments to buy Pepperland. Craptastic!
