Hey, it doesn't all have to be about movies. Here are some quotes from pop songs. As usual, there is a mix of easy and hard. Name the song and the artist.

Send me a songwriter
Who's drifted far from home
And make sure that he's hungry
Make sure he's alone
Send me a cheeseburger
And a new Rolling Stone

Seven years of power
The corporation claw
The rich control the government, the media the law
To make some kind of difference
Then everyone must know
Eradicate the fascists, revolution will grow

I went to see the doctor of philosophy
With a poster of Rasputin and a beard down to his knee
He never did marry or see a B-grade movie
He graded my performance, he said he could see through me
I spent four years prostrate to the higher mind, got my paper
And I was free.

She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea

The Last Resort/The Eagles

A lot of simps won't like this song
'Cause them punks like to hit it and quit it
And I'd rather stay and play
'Cause I'm long, and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on

the winter here's cold, and bitter
it's chilled us to the bone
we haven't seen the sun for weeks
too long too far from home
I feel just like I'm sinking
and I claw for solid ground
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
oh darkness I feel like letting go

Full of Grace/Sarah McLachlan

I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"

'I have here a cask of most magical wine
A vintage that blessed every ship in the line
It's wrung from the blood of the sailor's who died
Young white bodies adrift in the tide'

I'm still suffering, ever so slightly, of the cold I caught Tuesday night. It hasn't stopped me from having a good time this weekend, not has it stopped me from having to shovel the walks on friday, Saturday AND Sunday.

Friday was a day off and I woke up at the crack of noon. I had exactly enough energy to do archery and I did. Note that I did not have enough energy to go to archery (it would have been a two hour transit in the snow if I hadn't convinced Gareth to go). I shot OK, but I want more. I feel like I'm on the cusp of jump in my archery ability. It's like I have a whole box full of new tools, but I haven't really figured out how to use them all together. I can't wait for next friday so I can try to put it all together again.

While at archery, Anise invite [livejournal.com profile] garething and I to an evening of board games at her house. I was up for that so that is what we did on Saturday night. We brought Brian and Bruce along too and we had a blast.

First of course was the fact that I got the chance to play trivial pursuit, twice! Not I don't get to play it that often because nobody will play with me. I think there are two reasons for this:
1) I always win.
2) I gloat.
It's the one time I can really let my useless-trivia-filled head go and I take full advantage of being a stinking know it all.

The second game was close however, due to the fact that Meg Tilley is not Jennifer Tilley.

We played cheapass games and I managed to crack up Anise with the joke that i'm going to go to hell for:
Q: What does the Roman Catholic Church call its new low fat, low calorie, communion wafer?
A: I Can't Believe it's Not Jesus.
Badump-bump.

Today I went to Chinook Center and watched The Aviator with my old friend Colleen. It was a really good movie. Every single actor did a fantastic job. Scorsese directed the hell out of this movie. I consider it a sign that the world is inherently perverse that Eminem has more Academy Awards than this man. Pay particular attention to the cinematography - colours change to match the filmmaking techniques of that year, and the aerial photography is some of the best I've ever scene.

It is pretty punk though, as any biopic of Howard Hughes must be. Money can't buy happiness, and that was never more apparent than with HH. Modern psychotherapy is what the man desperately needed and could not get. Imagine what he could have accomplished in an alternate world where he was partnered with a strong woman who could keep him from descending into his personal madness.

Or maybe he just needed treatment for syphilis.

Afterwards, Colleen and I went to the Mongolie grill for dinner and caught up on old times (it's been over a year since I last saw her). Hopefully it will be less time until I see her again - my Oscar party is in a few weeks and she said she'd show up.
