Saturday was the day I was going to go to Victoria. I opted against it because I got a late start and it looked like I didn't need to leave Vancouver to get some sunlight. I ended up taking a good long walk.

I started on Broadway, walked to Granville Island and did a little window shopping and bought some stupidly expensive fudge. Afterword I took a boat across false creek to the sea wall and went for a walk. I think I spent a good solid hour just sitting on a bench people watching. It was relaxing.

The evening was spent just staying in and chatting with friends.

Sunday was the day of the big birthday barbecue in honor of Lou. In the morning prior to an afternoon of cyber-stalking, Sean and I went to Cafe Crepe. There we met up with some of his American friends and had a long discussion of L5R and politics. Despite that I had a good time at breakfast.

Now back to Lou's birthday BBQ. I haven't seen Lou in a couple of years - so long in fact that the last time I saw him he was single and now he's got a sweetie and a kid! It wasn't because I was from Calgary either – everyone else hadn't seen him either. Fatherhood seems to suit him. He doted on the baby and he had a relaxed way about him with his family that suggested confidence. It looks good on him.

Alex was also at the party. I like Alex, partly because he's smart and fun to be with, but also because it's nice knowing when we're in a group of people that the guy whose the biggest nerd and most likely to put his foot in his mouth isn't me.

It was a barbecue – we roasted the flesh of dead animals and ate it. Take that PETA. I had a blast.

Monday I had to return to Calgary. These days are always tinged with melancholy as I'm leaving my Vancouver friends (not so bad this time as a bunch of them we'll be coming out to visit in two weeks). My Calgary friends are nice and all, and I love them dearly, but my going to Vancouver is still an event to the people who live there. It's always a greatly appreciated piece of ego-boosting. Coming home to find nobody waiting at the airport or at home is more than a little depressing.

We attempted to make a trip to the Clubhouse our last activity before I was dropped at the airport. We got there at 4:20 to find that it opened at 5. So we opted to just go to Jun's Sushi. Driving up we discovered that it was closed on Mondays. So we walked down to The Eatery, which was open, though barely because they had torn out all the wiring in the ceiling – they would only seat us on the patio.
