Another New Year
Jan. 1st, 2007 03:56 amI went to two NYE parties tonight. The first was Sheldon's and it was fun. When I first got there I knew about half the people present. Chatted for a bit and had a good time. By the time 10 p.m. rolled around, I knew about 20% of the people there. It was fun, but I was starting to feel like a wallflower.
kalchak and
vilashna were there, as were some other archers. Annys was there too and allegedly has joined the ranks of the LJ. Waiting to hear from her as to her username though.
I got a nice phone call during the party from SH thanking me for some cookies I baked for her daughters and she. I wish I could make out what she said over the phone. It was either "Your cookies make me hot - I'm going to jump you" or "I'm allergic to chocolate chips and we all swelled up like balloons - you'll be hearing from my lawyers". Probably it was something between these two extremes.
I then drove out to Didsbury to
not_the_dog and
speed_ball_boy's party. It was a somewhat smaller affair, having four couples and myself. In addition to the hosts,
askell_sigurd,
no1di,
wackynephews,
wee_megan and
wendy_licious. Pretty much the only non-LJ person there was Corey - get with the program guy, all the cool kids are doing it!
This was a somewhat more subdued celebration, but pleasant nonetheless. It was exactly the sort of quiet socializing that I like, with people that I like. Plus W flashed me. It was a PG flash to show off her penguin bra. At least I think there were penguins on it. Possibly it was bluebirds, or maybe little octopi. I remember the bra was blue, or maybe red. Green for certain - with astrological symbols! Ok, I remember her boobies.
While driving on the highway I noticed that every single car that passed me (about a dozen both ways) was a pickup truck. I haven't quite decided if this means trucks are more likely to be manned by reckless drivers, or if there are simply more truck drivers on highway 2 at 10:30 p.m. on a sunday night.
I got back home to find that
thebrucie was still there. He had just arrived at my place after discovering that the trains were no longer running (thus stranding him on the wrong end of the city). He asked for a ride and I gave him one since I wasn't quite blitzed yet. We caught up on the weekend gossip.
So yeah, it's a new year. Not much changed from the old year. I would like to say that I'm glad that I have such an awesome group of friends - so much so that it takes three houses just to hold a fraction of them on New Year's Eve! I have many wishes for the new year, but foremost among them is the hope that I can achieve worthiness for being so rich in friends.
I just blasted this entire post out in about ten minutes. Apparently I can write like a demon when I'm punchy from sleep depravation. I guess the nit-picking I subject myself too shuts off under these circumstances. Happy New Year's folks. May your experiences this year match your hopes and dreams.

I promise to invite you and a few others over to have a feast of Nikka Ramen noodles when I finally find a place.
