Hoody Hoo!
Jun. 29th, 2004 09:41 amIt was very nearly the government I wanted. When I went to bed last night it was the government I wanted, but when I woke up this morning the New Democrats lost a few close riding to the Conservatives.
The House of Commons is now split evenly. 154 seats go to the Grits and the NDs, 153 seats go to the Torys and the BQ. A lone BC independent has the last seat and it remains to be seen who he will side with. He used to be Conservative, but lost the riding nomination so it's hard to say what he'll do.
I'd have preferred those three extra ND seats, just so some lone crackpot doesn't hold the whole country hostage ("I want three new hospitals and a military base in my riding or I'll force an election Bwahahaha", says the honorable member from North Battleford-Sodomy).
Still, it was nice to see the Liberals get spanked good and hard so they don't pull any sponsorship-scandal shit for a few years at least. The NDs will have a decent influence on the Liberals, meaning we'll get the stuff that they agree on - universal health care will be strengthened for example. Maybe same-sex marriages and other similar civil-rights issues will finally be dealt with correctly.
I figure we have about two years until the next election. Let's hope Martin and layton get a lot done in that time.
I have a lot of hope for the future that I didn't have for a long time.
Oh yeah, the sexiest woman in Alberta Politics - Anne McLellan - won her riding again (and again, it was a nail biter). I generally don't go for women twenty years my senior, but there's just something about her jet-black hair and glasses that does it for me. She's one hot Deputy PM, le rowr rowr!
