SL's good-bye party was supposed to be tonight. What the hell happened I don't know but I sure would like to know.
It was scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight at Lighthouse Pub. Sadly this was on the other side of town. I went anyway because it would be the last time I'd see some people I like for a long time.
I got there about five minutes early to discover that the Lighthouse pub is one of those completely generic "sunset grill" type bars that every strip mall in the city has one of. There was a handful of tables, VLTs and pool tables. A few TVs were tuned to the hockey game and the regulars were listlessly watching the Habs play while taking the occasional pull from their bottles of Canadian.
In short, not the sort of place that I'd frequent. Also not a "pub" so much as a "bar".
I bought a pop and hung around waiting. Time passed. It got to be 8:30 and no one ever showed up. Not the guest of honour, not the confirmed guests, not anyone that I would recognize as either an archer or a SCAdian.
There was another pub in the same mall, so I checked it out. No one was there either.
I left and went home; a second half-hour drive from one end of the city to the other. Along the way I wondered if I had read the event copy correctly. Maybe the error was mine and I had got the date wrong. Nope, Tuesday, December 12th is what it said and that's what today is. Every detail lined up with where I was in time and space. I was just the only person who was there.
So what happened? Who knows - My guess is that everyone cancelled and the outing was cancelled, but no one bothered to post this information to the public list that I found it on (and just so as you know I was also personally invited by the guest of honour at the last archery practice, so I didn't just read it on a group).
I am not going to let this draw me down paranoid alley.
