Da Union (of Avacal Archers) held a fund raiser this weekend. The format was this: All of the competing archers would be put up for auction. The money raised would then be split into two - half goes to the fund raising and the other half is a prize for the person who "bought" the archer who won the tournament.

It's a bit of a popularity contest so I didn't do too well. I was purchased for a mere eleven dollars (by my good friend Jacqui). Almost everyone in my category went for higher (sometimes far higher - [livejournal.com profile] garething went for $30, Dalton went for $56.

I was a little pissed off by this and attributed this to the paranoid notion that nobody likes me.

Despite that I did have a good time at tavern.

Friday I practiced and also reminded myself that archery should be fun. We shot the hell out of a stuffed rabbit that I secretly thought of as Ikrit - Brain's Star Wars RPG character. After weeks and weeks of shooting nothing but Royal Rounds this was a breath of fresh air.

The bad news was that my pissy attitude continued and I trash-talked a number of people when I really shouldn't have. This morning I resolved not to do that. Karma can be a bitch and it does have a tendency to bite me in the ass - I never win when I'm trash talking.

Time to put some good karma into the bank - I baked cookies Friday night instead of getting an extra hour of sleep.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early. Picked up [livejournal.com profile] garething and [livejournal.com profile] stephtopia and K and we drove down to the archery centre.

Arnolt ran the tournament and the format was simple and also evil. Double elimination, archers compete one-on-one with another archer and the worst shot gets a lose. Two loses eliminates you from the competition. "Worst" was defined as your farthest arrow of three, so it was a quick competition.

In the early part of the competition I was very lucky. I shot like ass, but the people I was up against shot worse, so I managed to not get eliminated. Later, I remembered how to aim, and that was when I started shooting against my betters. Again I managed to not get eliminated.

The final round I was up against Dalton (head of Da Union and one of the top archers in An Tir, much less Avacal.

And I won! I was shaky and nervous the whole time but I won!

Boo-Ya all you losers who wouldn't bid on me. Jacqui, I'm not sure when you're getting your $108, but it should be soon.

Whooot!!!

Ya you!

I personally think that the only reason you didn't go higher is that you are lesser known as a top archer - i.e. people don't know how well you can shoot. They know Dalton can kick ass.
That is about to change, me thinks.

as said at the tavern... A lot TOO can do with who is around the auction when each person goes up.

The ONLY reason Garething went for MORE than you.. was a side JOKE and CHALLENGE. It had absoluely not a f'n thing to do with YOUR polularity.. or HIS.

Yay for you winning.

Boo for me not having bought you...
(I really need to bring like %50 to tavern every single time now, because any time I don't, that's when I need it.)
