I had three days off in February, so the prospect of a three day weekend in March was golden. Of course, I blew that by working a half-day on Friday instead of taking it off as I had originally planned.
Friday consisted of having a repairman in to fix our washing machine (which had decided to stop using cold water). At least it's fixed now, though I think any more repairs on either the washer or dryer will prompt me to simply get new ones so I don't have to worry about it for a few years.
In the spirit of getting things fixed I also took the car into the shop to have them re-estimate the cost of fixing my birthday accident. It's also gone 8K, which meant it was due for an oil change, or so I thought, having been told exactly that by someone from Village Honda's service department. Turns out the only time I bring the car in is when the dash board indicator tells me to do so. So it doesn't need an oil change yet, but it's getting close. But I did need two things done right? Well it turns out the vehicle inspection guy was running hours behind due to being the only one on duty that day (normally there are two, but the other guy called in sick). None of this would bother me too much except that I then had to wait half an hour to get my car out of their bays.
Meh.
I hung around the house for awhile before heading out to archery for the evening. This meant a wonderful drive through the falling snow.
Now I've heard from numerous others that people turn retarded when driving in the snow, but my experience has been different so far. People slow down, take things easy and generally aren't assholes. I suspect the reason my experience is so atyical is because I don't commute or drive during rush hour. Well that's not entirely true - I do see morons driving when it's foggy, but not when it's slippery.
I shot a 77. Blew it on the speed round - I really think I could have broken 90 if it weren't for that. Next time for sure.
I also volunteered to help SL and JJ rebuild SL's mom's deck.
Bright and early Saturday morning I had to pick up my fellow conspirators. Then it was off to the (ugh) Denny's so that we could wait for EJ (SL's mom) to get tricked out of the house.
vilashna goes into some detail about the project here. Her boyfriend
kalchak was there too.
Basically, we cleaned tore down her old deck and rebuilt it with new materials (the old one was rotting away, and EJ had actually fallen partially through it a few years prior). There were assorted electrical and plumbing problems that got fixed. Some rot in the drywall was replaced with non-rot. Finally, the walls and cupboards were given a good cleaning and supper was made.
Throughout it all, I did an insane amount of driving. From Pepperland to pick up coconspirators in Banff Trail and West Hillhurst. Then off to the Denny's at McKnight and Edmonton Trail. Then to EJ's house in Patterson. Then back home (in JJ's van) to pick up my ladder and
garething (who ended up not going to Ellias' cabin for the weekend due to the danger of dying on the highway), then back to Patterson. Then back home after we finished helping.
garething and I ended up finishing a little early, so we missed seeing EJ (and more importantly, the look on her face, which I've been told was priceless). We left because I had tickets to the theatre and I was taking
hadriel out for her birthday. I needed time to clean up. I also spent about an hour just standing in the shower, cause tearing down a deck in a foot of snow is sore, tiring, cold work.
So then more driving, to pick up
hadriel (who lives in the Dalhousie Hive, so it's not far), then downtown for the play.
The play was called Trying by Joanna McClelland Glass.
It was really good, but it brought up a lot of issues with my late Dad. There were some tears.
We drove back to my place where we grabbed
kermie_canada and
spookiemonkie and headed out to Kilkenny's for a quick bite and impromptu birthday celebration. I went home with every intention of sleeping in until the crack of noon.
Strangely, I woke up at 8. Sunday was spent with friends. We had a nice fruity breakfast, then I went down to the Calgary Farmer's Market. This may be a mistake as I completely blew my Weight Watchers points for the day.
The Academy Awards were on Saturday. Jon Stewart had some funny shit. Not too many surprises though (except for Best Picture, which I thought would be Brokeback Mountain, but ended up being Crash). I didn't have my usual Oscar party though, because I was so busy during the week I didn't invite anyone. Despite that, the roomies and some houseguests watched it.
So that was about it, a weekend that was pretty much go go go. I desperately need to rest and recover. I'll settle for some really awesome sex though.

Were I able to find someone qualified to offer it to you, I'd... well, darn it, I'd direct her your way, all things considered right now. But I'd unreasonably resent you for it for a little while.
