This weekend is a long one for me. Remembrance Day got me the Friday off, and I'm taking Monday off as a holiday. Little did I know that I was also going to be sick this weekend. On the bright side, it's not a oh-my-god-I'm-dying sick, more of a low-grade-crappy sort of sick. Sick enough that I haven't run because walking tires me out.

Friday I took [livejournal.com profile] stephtopia and [livejournal.com profile] garething to the airport. Making this the third trip to the airport this week (there was also the Brain, and [livejournal.com profile] spookiemonkie's sister), I have begun paying off my ride-mooching karma with earnest!

I also went to IKEA on Friday. Being a stat holiday and also a rare IKEA sale, the parking lot was a zoo - just the thing for a new driver to deal with. Weirdly, the store wasn't stupidly crowded. Having killed some time there I proceeded to buy my first tank of gas (no where near as onerous as I was led to believe) and some heavy winter boots. I then proceeded to go to Airdrie for [livejournal.com profile] wendy_licious and [livejournal.com profile] wackynephews' barbeque.

First, an observation about Deerfoot Trail, aka Highway 2. It does not matter how fast you are travelling, or how much you are over the speed limit - there will always be someone trying to drive right up your ass.

Got to Airdrie alright. I was the first person there and also a half-hour late. Well, lateness is a relative thing with a party. It's more of a sin to be early then to be late, so it doesn't matter when you show up, so long as they're not still setting up. Coincidentally I was also the last to leave (aside from [livejournal.com profile] murchad, who lives down the block, so his travel time is somewhat less then mine.

It was dark by the time I got there, so the fact that this party was called a "barbecue" is a bit of a misnomer. At no time did anyone go outside to barbecue anything. W says this is because she forgot just how early it gets dark at this time of year. Be glad you don't live in Arkhangelsk says I.

Other LJers that made it to the party include [livejournal.com profile] catalytic and [livejournal.com profile] madeileen, who are always great fun to talk to. In addition, there was also a large assortment of people I wanted to talk to, and not too many people I wanted to avoid. There were stories, discussions, jokes and people had a great time.

Leaving, I had to brush my car off, so I'm glad I bought a snow brush for it. Being unfamiliar with the car still, I started it, then checked to make sure the door wasn't locked, then checked again, then checked yet again, then checking the back door was unlocked, before finally closing the door to let it warm up while I worked outside.

And I drove home, but not before taking an impromptu tour of West Airdrie because the turn off onto highway 2 was blocked by construction barriers. I think there must have been an alternate exit, but I missed it. No matter, I finally managed to get back home, where I promptly passed out for a good sleep. Liam (N's cat) has turned into Zabu though and is now looking for attention when I'm trying to sleep. On the bright side, he's less persistent than Zabu, and will leave after ten minutes.

Saturday was the nadir of my cold, and I did nothing. I wanted to go to the Taboo Sex Show, but was just to blah to work up the energy to go. Also, I didn't want to go by myself. Too bad really as I know of at least four people who could have scored me free tickets. Next year I guess. I was hoping they'd be in Edmonton in two weeks (when I'll be up there for an SCA event), but it's actually next weekend.

Well I did watch a couple of episodes of Greg the Bunny. I can see why it was cancelled, but it was still fun, and not just because it prominently features Sarah Silverman's legs. On the bright side, I'm feeling much better today.

Today, I went to Sentry Box with [livejournal.com profile] spookiemonkie and then had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] stephtopia and [livejournal.com profile] garething. More on that next post though.

Mmmm... ikea

I went to Ikea on Tuesday with my Mommy. I spent way too much, but now most of my shelving is off the floor.

I've shown a picture to several of the people I work with, and the only reaction I seem to be getting is a widening of the eyes and a "Holy shit!"

I really do prefer it to my usual blue rubbermaid containers. They have handles, for one thing. And I honestly did buy them originally for the textures for a project.

I'll post a picture when I can. In the meantime, James, I hereby request you to give a hug to all the people I would normally give hugs to. That pretty much includes anyone who isn't sharp and spiky. Squeeze handfuls if they squeeze first.

Thanks. I won't be able to get down there before the end of the year, but y'all can consider that a generous Christmas gift.
