I've learned things while combing through the garage sale donations. Sometimes it's not that earth-shattering - it is, in fact, something that makes perfect sense when you point your brain at it:

A lot of women in the SCA read trashy historical romance novels.

This is a big improvement over last year, when I learned that someone would be so crass as to donate a used jock strap. Um, eww.

So yeah, garage sale at my house this weekend (Friday 6-8, Saturday 8-5). Proceeds go to the Barony of Montengarde, Calgary's branch of the SCA. There's lots of books (not just trashy romance novels), videos, games, music. There'll even be a few working computers (P3's running Linux). It'll all be very cheap. Don't let anyone else beat you to the deals.

You be reading the wrong paranormal romances, eh? If you skip the scenes where the normal and not-so-normal hominids (usually) are causing altered mental and bodily reactions to and in each other, then sometimes you end up with a pretty good story.

Anyway, I noticed that Q did not mention how many men read trashy historical romances and surreptitiously assign the habit to somebody else.

i have to agree... we hates them too... we also hates it when a romance novel pretends to be something else so you end up reading it by mistake... I have one that walks a very fine line... I only tolerate it because it has horses in it! ;p
