Mother's Day
I miss my mom. It's been nearly a year since she died and I can tell now
that May is always going to be tinged with sadness - she was Born in May,
died in May and of course, Mother's day is in May.
I ran the Forzani's race again this year. Being grossly out of shape
compared to years past, I was considering cheating. This would consist of
me wearing my 10K chip but walking the 5 KM route (My best time for running 10K is
about 67 minutes and my average time for walking 10K is about 50 minutes, which is
close enough that it wouldn't stand out in tomorrows paper). Then I got down
there and decided to do the whole 10 Km, despite the fact that the weather
absolutely sucked (light wet snow and blowing winds) - not bad enough to
cancel, just bad enough to make you regret getting up. I'm glad the woman
in Roxboro who normally hoses down the runners (to cool them off - not to be
a jerk) opted to just watch this year.
I also slept in and almost missed the start of the race. One piece of good
luck got me down to the Tower literally as the race was starting, my walk
from the train became my start of the race with no speeding up or slowing
down required.
So, no practicing beforehand + not enough sleep + rush to get there on time + cold and drizzly weather = one big knot of soreness today. Ugh.
